THE ANSWER TO A MILDLY TAXING QUESTION
Some days the topic on producers’ minds is complicated; other days the topic is so straightforward we can provide a quick answer. Which energy uses are subject to sales tax? What about your horse barn?
Here’s one easy way to know the answer: If the vehicle has a license plate on it, you pay sales on the things that make it run. Items you purchase such as oil filters and batteries for any on-road vehicle will incur sales tax.
What about your propane expenditures? If the propane you buy heats some building that isn’t your home—if you use it to warm your shop or your horse barn…you must pay sales tax.
Those are a couple of quick examples provided by the Minnesota Department of Revenue. FCA Co-op will see that you have more information in the future. Watch for updates included with your billing statement.
