EASTERN PLANTING ISSUES ARE ALL THE TALK
We’re currently seeing a volatile market in both corn and soybeans driven by slow planting in the eastern Corn Belt. Private marketing companies have already lowered trend yields, possibly below one billion bushels for 2009.
Bean exports are being coaxed along by demand from China. The Chinese are buying from the U.S. because South American production was low this season.
The will be a limited carryout coming into the new year so we can expect more market fluctuations all the way through to new crop.
We can expect weather to be the primary market influence overall because there are rumblings about possible drought in some areas. We’re already seeing the potential for dry conditions right here in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota.
You can outsmart unpredictable markets with a combination of smart strategies from FCA Co-op:
- Give us your offers and we’ll keep an eye on the markets while you’re busy spraying. This is what we’re here for!
- Call us for on farm pickup. Empty out your bins to avoid a rush to town later.
- Take advantage of our free storage offer so your grain is where you want it to be when you’re ready to set a price. (Just remember all free-storage grain must by priced by Monday, August 31.)
By the way, I’m back at work nearly full-time now after my surgery. You can call or stop by and expect to find me ready to talk about your marketing plans.
